I have always loved Metal Music and Fashion; ever since I watched Billy Wilders "Sabrina" and listened to my first Slayer album. They had me at "La Vie en rose" and "Angel of death - monarch to the kingdom of the dead!"
Sewing came very naturally to me, and I was in love as soon as I locked down my first stitch. Growing up, I came to realize that sewing was a dying art. I remember watching watching older films with my mom and sister when I was little and soon enough, I developed a love for the classy vintage styles from the 40′s through the 60′s. I decided the next step in my future career was to bring those timeless styles back.
Later in life, I started listening to Metal and realized that not only is it a wildly misunderstood genre in general society, but it’s also lost in an abundance of punk and goth inspired clothing lines in the fashion world. As a designer, I have taken it upon myself to show the public how beautiful Heavy Metal really is by interpreting the complexity of the compositions into intricate garment details that are fashion forward, yet wearable for the every day woman.
With Audrey Hepburn as my muse, and my inspiration fueled by the strength of Heavy Metal Music, I set off on my dream to make Manic Designs a reality and enrolled at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco, CA. I graduated in 2009 with an Associate of Arts Degree in Fashion Design and started Manic Designs in 2010.
Thank you so much to all my friends, family, and my awesome fans for all your love and support! Manic has been a long time dream of mine and I couldn't ask for a better group of people to share this amazing experience with. I love you all!
XOXO,
Rachel Riot
